How it started
Thandi Monee' was founded in 2022, not out of ambition, but out of clarity. The kind of clarity that only comes when you've been forced to sit still long enough to hear yourself think.
Our founder, Thandi Monee' Montgomery, had spent years doing what a lot of us do: performing. Showing up the way others expected. Being what was needed in the room. And doing it well enough that most people never noticed, including, for a time, herself.
Then, in 2021, she was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer.
What followed was four surgeries, sixteen rounds of chemotherapy, and thirty rounds of radiation. It was also, quietly, the beginning of the most honest chapter of her life. Because when everything else falls away, you stop performing. You start feeling. And she realized something that would shape everything that came after: she hadn't been living. She'd been existing and wasting time making everyone else happy.
What she found on the other side
Recovery gave her something she hadn't expected. Not just a second chance at life, but a second chance at herself. She came out of it with one question she couldn't shake: how many people are out there just existing, living for everyone else's expectations, completely unaware that there is another way?
The answer, it turns out, is most of us. We learn early, often before we can name it, that fitting in is safer than standing out. That keeping others comfortable is worth the cost of our own discomfort. That saying yes is easier than the conversation that comes after saying no.
And over time, that just becomes life. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
She vowed to use her gifts and her second chance to help people rediscover who they are so they can live and lead as their true selves. Not someday, but now. And Thandi Monee' LLC was born to make that possible.
The name carries the mission
The brand is named after its founder, and that wasn't an accident. Thandi is a Zimbabwean name that means the one who is loved, a gift from God. Monee' is a French name that means to be heard. Together, they carry an invitation to every person willing who we interact with: you are a gift, and it's time to be heard.
Not the version of you that learned to shrink. Not the version of you that performs. The real one. The whole one. The free one.
